Sandpiper Juniors, the junior organization of Sandpipers was formed in January 1961 and continues to provide a charitable and philanthropic commitment to the South Bay. The original group included high school aged daughters and granddaughters of the Sandpipers members living throughout the South Bay. In 1986, the organization was opened to include girls whose families had not previously been a part of Sandpipers.
Every Year, Sandpiper Juniors use their resources to better their community and the lives of those less fortunate through charitable and philanthropic programs. We assist Sandpipers with some of their projects such as: Holiday Homes Tour, Sugar Plum Tree, and delivering Holiday Baskets. Through Sandpipers, Sandpiper Juniors adopted ten families. The girls shop for needed items, and deliver food during the holidays. Since 1994, Sandpiper Juniors has been assisting the United Methodist Church to feed the needy. 1994 was also the start of our ongoing relationship with Maryvale Orphanage; a home for girls ranging from young toddlers to high school aged girls. Sandpiper Juniors collect and make special "personal" holiday gift bags. In 2003 Sandpiper Juniors hosted our annual Maryvale Beach Party, donating beach towels and summer, sand and fun to the teens of Maryvale. Sandpiper Juniors contributes over 2500 hours annually to "hands on service" to our community.
The Sandpiper Juniors have three major fundraising events each year. First, we staff two booths at the Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair and hold a garage sale. In the spring, we put on our gala Fashion Show. All proceeds are used for end of the year "philanthropic contributions". This past year we were able to donate $22,000 to community organizations that the girls selected. The organizations included are listed on our Agencies We Support page.
Yearly activities include Freshman/Senior Social, Senior Potluck, Spring Social, Spring Fashion Show, and Medallion Presentation.
The following quote exemplifies the Sandpiper Juniors…
