What is the Membership Process?
Application Process:
Sandpiper Juniors is a four year program. Members join as Freshmen. Prospective Members must attend one of the two scheduled mandatory meetings with a parent to receive an application.
Meetings:
Hermosa Civic Center - Hermosa Beach
Thursday June 7, 2007
Sunday June 10, 2007
Membership Selection Process:
The maximum number of girls for each class is 22. Legacy members have first priority. After legacy members have been determined the remaining positions will be filled by general applicants. A lottery process is used for selecting the qualified general applicants. The lottery is based on even representation among different high schools. The names drawn in excess of the 22 will be numbered, placed on a waiting list for eighteen months, and contacted as space becomes available.
Legacy Membership:
A legacy consists of a high school girl with a mother or grandmother who is a member in good standing with Sandpipers Inc., or a sister who is a member in good standing or a Medallion Recipient.
A Congratulatory Letter and a Membership Packet will be mailed to the first 22 girls selected for membership. All necessary forms must be completed, signed, accompanied with $100 check payable to Sandpiper Juniors and returned by the deadline. If the forms and check are not received by the date given, the applicant will be dropped from consideration for membership and the next person on the waiting list will be given the opportunity for membership.

Approved community service is presented to the membership on clipboards, available for signup before each general meeting. If a Sandpiper Junior cannot fulfill her community service commitment, she must notify the Community Service VP that she cannot fulfill her obligation and provide the name of another Sandpiper Junior willing to serve in her place. If the Sandpiper Junior FAILS to replace herself, she must notify the Community Service VP and complete an additional hour of community service for each hour she failed to serve(a 2-hour commitment then becomes a 4-hour commitment). Completed hours are listed in the monthly Starfish Newsletter and available at meetings.
Meetings:
Each Sandpiper Junior MUST ATTEND 6 out of 10 scheduled meetings in order to continue in the Sandpiper Juniors organization. You will receive a meeting schedule in September. Please plan accordingly.
